Police trace new mother and baby

Police who made an appeal after finding a bag containing bloodstained rags have traced a mother and her newborn baby.

Officers expressed concern for the safety of a new mother after the bag was discovered on grassland behind the Hotel Elizabeth in Corby on Wednesday.

Inquiries had suggested the blood may have resulted from the recent birth of a baby, or a mother who had recently had a miscarriage, police said earlier.

The mother and baby are both said to be safe and well.

Northamptonshire Police thanked the media for its help in its search.
