Protection against system failure

Northamptonshire Police's entire communications system can now be run from a single laptop in the event of a widespread network failure.

Tests carried out by senior officers show the new system can maintain a full service in almost any eventuality.

All live incidents will be stored on the laptop, as well as extracts from the force's other databases.

The system will be supported by mobile phones to ensure officers can still communicate after a system failure.
