Outline plans to build 500 homes on a site earmarked for a major residential development have been submitted.
Ensign Group has put forward the plans that could form the first of three phases to erect 1,250 new houses at Buckton Fields, Daventry in Northants.
A 21-day public consultation period is being held to allow residents and businesses to comment on the plans.
The Daventry Local Plan shows it will house some of the new homes the government says are needed in the area.
The developer has said it expects the local planning authority will impose conditions that will see it build an infrastructure which could include a school, medical centre or shops.
'Constructive comments'
Andrew Wilson, a director of Ensign Group Ltd, said: "Central government has set substantial targets for Northampton in respect of its housing needs as part of a strategy for sustainable growth.
"Our decision to submit a separate application for Buckton Fields East came after the Secretary of State wrote to Daventry District Council confirming that the Buckton Fields site will remain allocated for development in the adopted Daventry Local Plan.
"A huge amount of work has been done to identify and understand specific issues and areas of concern including traffic congestion and flood risk.
"Where possible constructive comments have been taken on board to help to shape the final outline planning application which has now been registered by Daventry District Council."
