Historic farm may go up for sale

Chester Farm buildings An historic farm with a buried deserted mediaeval village and a Roman town may be put up for sale by a county council.

A Northants Council business committee will next week discuss ways to preserve Chester Farm in Wellingborough which it has owned since 2004.

One option is to sell the land to an individual or organisation able to fund its preservation and long-term future.

Commercial operations cabinet member Andre Gonzalez de Savage said: "Chester Farm is a unique heritage asset."

The site will only be sold if tenders demonstrate how the site will be preserved and the heritage safeguarded.

Any money raised from any sale would be reinvested in the area to ensure the site is properly looked after and that public access is increased.

The Chester Farm site lies to the east of Wellingborough and to the north of Irchester.

The site features a Roman walled town, deserted mediaeval village, historically important farm buildings and 19th Century industrial works.
