Old factory in danger of collapse

A road in the centre of Northampton has been closed by police amid fears a building could collapse.

Police were called to the former Hawkins factory in St Michael's Road at 1313 BST after reports it was unstable.

Structural engineers attended the scene and the road was expected to be closed for up to five hours.

A building opposite the factory was evacuated as a precautionary measure and motorists are being warned to avoid the area.
