Woman retracts sex attack claim

Detectives have halted a search for a sex attacker in North Yorkshire after a woman retracted her allegations.

Police said the 19-year-old woman had earlier reported she had suffered a serious sexual assault in Heslington Lane, York, on Tuesday evening.

She alleged the attack had happened near the Fulford Golf Club, not far from the University of York's sports centre.

North Yorkshire Police said she had withdrawn her allegations on Wednesday.
