Police divers find body in river

Police rescue teams searching for a man who jumped from a bridge into a river in York have found a body.

Divers and a police helicopter were drafted in to help with the search when the man plunged into the River Ouse off Lendal Bridge in the early hours.

Officers had been at the scene attempting to negotiate with the man before the incident.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "The underwater search team found the body of a male this afternoon."

He said the body had not yet been formally identified.
