Man killed in two-vehicle crash

One man has been killed and another person injured in a crash involving two cars in North Yorkshire.

The vehicles collided on the A171 near Moorhouse Farm, Whitby, at 0700 GMT.

North Yorkshire Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and another person had been taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The extent of that person's injuries is not known. The road has been closed in both directions. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
