School future safe with £2m plan

Parents' fears that a primary school in Norfolk would close have ended, with the announcement of plans for a £2.4m expansion and rebuilding programme.

Norfolk County Council wanted to make improvements at Cobholm Primary School in Great Yarmouth.

But parents became concerned when the plans were blocked by the Environment Agency, because of flooding risks.

Now flood risks have been calculated and an evacuation plan drawn up, which has meant the work can go ahead.

Huge difference

The first sod of earth will be cut at 0930 BST on Monday n a ceremony at the school.

The work, due for completion by next summer, will see the construction of a school hall, kitchen, classrooms, a library and computer area, offices and additional toilets.

Headteacher Julie Risby said: "It is a very exciting time for the school.

"The work will make a huge difference to the range of learning opportunities that the children will receive."
