Education plans to be discussed

The future of education in a Norfolk town - which is set to grow by 6,000 homes by 2021 - is to be discussed by councillors this week.

The county council is examining what new schools are needed in Thetford to meet the planned growth of the town.

It is estimated that Thetford could see an increase of up to 1,370 primary pupils and 756 secondary pupils as part of population growth in the town.

The full report goes before councillors on Wednesday.

'Raise achievements'

The council anticipates that Thetford will need three new primary schools and a new or expanded high school.

The council said whether any schools should be merged or relocated would also need to be considered.

Rosalie Monbiot, the council's cabinet member for children's services, said: "It is vital that we start making plans for the future of education in Thetford.

"We want to raise achievements and aspirations further in Thetford.

"We also be consulting with all our partners and the public to come up with the best possible solutions to meet the needs of all the town's learners."
