Diabetes care is set to improve

The standard of care for people with diabetes in Norfolk will improve after a health committee raised concerns over the levels of service.

Norfolk County Council has announced extra staff are being recruited to work in hospitals to meet the issues raised.

A working group will be set up to help children with diabetes get better care.

An extra senior psychologist is to be recruited to work at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (N&N) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.

The N&N is also increasing its number of diabetes specialist nursing staff to meet guidelines from the Royal College of Nurses.

Chairman of the Norfolk health overview and scrutiny committee, Janice Eells, said: "I'm very pleased the committee has been able to affect a change in the way that people with diabetes are treated in Norfolk."

Ms Eells added that she was "looking forward to seeing how the care received by people with diabetes improves in the coming months".

Norfolk County Council's health overview and scrutiny committee highlighted their concerns in a report earlier this year.
