MP volunteers for charity stint

Charles Clarke

Former Labour Home Secretary Charles Clarke has joined volunteers in the Norwich branch of a charity shop.

The MP for Norwich South was one of 70 MPs who volunteered to work for a day in one of the children's charity Barnardo's shops.

The event is part of Community Service Volunteers (CSV) Make a Difference Day.

The politicians helped out by steaming clothes, restocking the shop floor, arranging window displays and pricing donations.

Make a Difference Day was organised by the UK volunteering charity to try and encourage people to try out volunteer work.

Also in Norwich city centre, groups of people have been suddenly "falling asleep" outside shops for two minutes and then "disappearing", to draw attention to the issue of homelessness.
