Better deal plan for grid supply

Microturbine

A better deal is being sought by a Norfolk council for anyone who installs renewable energy units and supplies the grid when they are not in use.

Broadland District Council wants an amendment to the Energy Bill now before Parliament to guarantee a price that reflects the cost of the equipment.

The price for supplying the grid is called a Feed in Tariff.

It would encourage domestic renewable technologies such as wind turbines and solar panels, a spokesman said.

The motion to support an amendment to the Energy Bill was proposed by John Fisher, portfolio holder for environmental policy development.

He said: "The Feed in Tariff is particularly suited to areas such as Broadland where not only individuals can take advantage, but also small businesses, farms, hotels, local communities, and village halls.

"They can invest in the technology knowing they can repay their investment and safeguard themselves against future excessive rises in energy costs."
