Officer accused of drink-driving

A senior Norfolk police officer has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The officer was arrested early on Friday 8 August in the car park at Dunston Hall Hotel, south of Norwich, it has been revealed.

The Crown Prosecution Service has been informed and the officer, who has not been named, has been removed from duty.

A Norfolk police spokeswoman declined to reveal the officer's name, rank or where the officer is based.

She said: "All inquiries regarding the conduct of officers and staff were investigated.

"The conduct of members of the police service, whether on or off duty, affects public confidence and the public have the right to expect the highest standards from their police service at all times," she said.

"The overwhelming majority of Norfolk Constabulary's police officers and staff deliver an excellent and professional service to the public, with a high degree of integrity."
