Museum appeal for permanent site

A Norfolk museum showcasing the history of the Broadland area has begun an appeal for funds for a permanent site.

The Museum of the Broads in Stalham hopes to raise £125,000 to buy the set of waterside buildings which the museum currently leases.

The museum's trustees are appealing to individuals, businesses and charities.

Museum chairman Pamela Masters said donors had "been very generous" so far but added that much more was needed to reach the target.

Permanent home

Ms Masters added: "We are thrilled that we are finally in a position to secure our future.

"As our collections grow we really need the stability of a permanent home.

"Being actually based on the Broads is vital. It makes the museum as accessible to boaters as it is to land-based locals and tourists."

The museum was set up in 1996 and is managed and staffed by volunteers.

It houses a collection of Broads boats and artefacts as well as photos, films and sailing diaries from the area.
