Chemical leaks on Norfolk beach

Fire crews were called to a beach in Norfolk following reports of a leaking chemical drum.

Three fire engines and a chemical incident unit attended Beach Road in Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth.

Two 25 litre containers, one of which was leaking a milky white substance on the beach, were found in the morning.

No action was taken by the fire brigade but the coastguard cordoned off the area. Police will arrange for the removal and disposal of the substance.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The chemical is still unidentified at this stage and we do not know who owns the drums as there were no markings on them."
