Royal Anglians parade across town

Anglians parade in Norwich The Royal Anglian Regiment is exercising its freedom of the borough of Great Yarmouth.

About 50 troops are marching from the town hall to the market place, where they will parade and be inspected by the Lord Lieutenant Richard Jewson.

The parade will then march into St Nicholas Parish Church for a service of thanksgiving led by team rector Canon Michael Woods, an army chaplain.

Six months ago the Royal Anglians returned from duty in Afghanistan.

Troops from the regiment have also paraded in Norwich and Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Woods said: "For a start the soldiers represent us. The politicians make the decision but the line that they draw is made up of soldiers.

"These people have done what they have done with discipline, commitment, training and resilience and comradeship and these are high value qualities that young people are able to recognise.

"The people of Yarmouth haven't really had a chance to say thank you to the regiment for some time and this is a good thing for that."
