Man jailed for dangerous driving

A 39-year-old man who drove an unfit vehicle while disqualified from driving has been jailed for eight months.

Richard Allen, of Crownthorpe, Wicklewood, near Wymondham, Norfolk, admitted dangerous driving at Norwich Crown Court.

Nick Methold, prosecuting, said the dangerous driving charge was due to the poor condition of his car when he was stopped by police in August 2007.

He had been disqualified in January for two years for motoring offences.

'Get a cycle'

Allen also admitted driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and driving without a test certificate.

Jonathan Morgans, representing Allen, said: "The greatest danger was to himself. It is a very rural location."

Judge Simon Barham, who also banned Allen from driving for a year, said: "This is a matter which cannot be overlooked.

"You have to alter your lifestyle yourself and the first thing will be to get a cycle or use public transport."
