Blaze destroys thatched cottage

Cottage fire (Picture courtesy of Jim Johnston) A thatched cottage in Norfolk has been reduced to its walls and chimney by a large fire.

At its height 10 fire crew tackled the blaze at Black Barn cottage on Morley Road at Deopham, near Attleborough, early on Saturday morning.

The 75-year-old occupant had thought there was a nearby bonfire, but instead found the blaze on the roof. She said she was shocked by the devastation.

Fire crews said they could do little to save the cottage when they arrived.
