PM meeting forces road closures

Motorists are being warned to avoid travelling into Liverpool city centre where restrictions will be in place in preparation for a government meeting.

Gordon Brown and government minsters are to hold a cabinet meeting at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Thursday.

There will be limited access to the Albert and Kings Docks from 0600 GMT until 1900 GMT, said Merseyside Police.

Road closures are being set up to keep emergency routes clear and maintain "public safety", police said.

The arena's multi-storey car park will also be closed from 1900 GMT on Wednesday for 24 hours.

Shops, business and restaurants around the docks will remain open during this time.
