Post-mortem tests on the body of a baby found at a house in Warrington are set to determine whether anyone will face charges over her death, police say.
The newborn girl was found on Tuesday after a woman was admitted to hospital with abdominal pains and blood loss.
The woman, who is believed to have given birth, has undergone two operations and is said to be in a poorly but stable condition.
A 56-year-old man initially arrested by officers is currently on bail.
Cause of death
The woman collapsed at Warrington bus station on Tuesday afternoon while waiting to travel to hospital.
Cheshire Police have so far been unable to speak to the woman because of her condition.
The post-mortem examination will establish the age of the baby, a cause of death and whether or not she was stillborn or had lived independently.
The results are unlikely to be known until next week and will determine the next stage of the investigation.
