Trio charged over player burglary

Lucas Leiva

Three people have been charged over a burglary at the home of Liverpool footballer Lucas Leiva.

Raiders struck at the Woolton home of the 21-year-old Brazil midfielder as the Reds played Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on 5 November.

They took an Olympic bronze medal and Brazil and Liverpool shirts.

Five people including an 81-year-old woman were arrested. Three people are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on 24 November.

Stephen Jones, 21, of Deansburn Road, West Derby, has been charged with burglary.

Brenda Jones, 42, of Lowerson Crescent, Norris Green, and Robyn Mutch, 19, of Redbrook Street, Norris Green, were charged with handling stolen property.

A 45-year-old man and the elderly woman were also arrested but have not been charged.

Police have recovered Leiva's Olympic medal.
