Warning over purse snatch spree

People living and working in Ellesmere Port are being reminded to keep their purses and wallets safe following a spate of thefts and attempted snatches.

Two thefts and at least two attempts to steal purses and wallets from elderly people have been reported to Cheshire Police in the last week.

One offender distracts the victim by chatting to them while another dips into their bag or pocket, police said.

The incidents all took place in the town centre.

Pc Warwick Evans said: "It is disgraceful that older members of our community, who are often the most vulnerable, are being targeted in this way.

"I would ask that everyone in the town centre remains vigilant and to consider where they keep their purse or wallet and how much money they carry in them."
