Faulty cable causes power failure

Hundreds of businesses and homes in north Liverpool are without electricity following a power shortage.

According to Scottish Power between 800 and 1,000 customers have been affected by a fault on an underground high voltage cable.

The fault, which the firm says involves general wear and tear, was reported just before midnight and has resulted in power cuts or flickering lights.

Engineers expect to have the fault repaired by mid-afternoon.
