Mother and baby in knife attack

A mother and her one-year-old daughter suffered slash wounds when they were attacked by a man with a knife as they walked along a street in Cheshire.

Lauri Steel, 18, suffered a small cut and her baby, Toni-Lea, received a two inch long mark on her leg in the attack on Eaton Road, Tarporley, on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault was released without charge.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit assault and suspicion of harassment.

Cheshire Police have branded the attack "cowardly" and are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened just before 1900 BST.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "The male cut the woman with a knife leaving a small wound and slashed at the baby's ankles leaving a two inch-long mark. The male then made off.

"Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses to this cowardly attack on the female and her daughter and would like help from the residents of Tarporley to help police bring the person responsible for this crime to justice."
