Costello awarded honorary degree

Elvis Costello

Singer songwriter Elvis Costello has received an honorary degree from the University of Liverpool.

The former Birkenhead resident shot to fame with his band the Attractions in the late 1970s.

He has had huge hits with songs like Oliver's Army, and more recently, She, from the Notting Hill soundtrack.

He has employed a range of styles from rock to blues and has collaborated with musicians such as Burt Bacharach, Tony Bennett and Sir Paul McCartney.
