Unions set to meet Sayers bosses

Union leaders representing more than 400 Sayers bakery workers who lost their jobs after a buy-out are set to meet company bosses next week.

Forty shops and the bakery at Norris Green, Liverpool, were closed on Monday as administrators were called in.

Staff met with the administrators on Wednesday and were told how to claim any unpaid wages owed to them.

Representatives from the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers' Union will meet Sayers bosses on Monday.

A spokesman said Wednesday's meeting between staff and administrators was "disappointing".

Sayers, which was one of the main sponsors for Liverpool's Capital of Culture, has been bought out by its managers led by Sayers chairman Sandy Birnie, to create a new firm Sayers the Bakers.

Bosses say the move secures the future of 158 Hampsons and Sayers stores as well as the Hampsons Bakery in Bolton.
