Bus services resume after strike

Bus services in Liverpool are getting back to normal after striking drivers returned to work.

Commuters in the south of the city were left stranded as staff at the Arriva bus depot in Speke walked out on unofficial action over working hours.

Drivers were protesting over revised hours proposed for when the Liverpool One development opens next month.

Arriva North West apologised for the delays, which affected about 120 bus services.

'Talks continuing'

Phil Stone, managing director at Arriva North West, said: "We apologise to all customers who were affected by the unofficial strike action this morning.

"The inconvenience to our passengers, without any warning, was unacceptable and we are taking this matter very seriously.

"We appreciate there is some driver dissatisfaction to the extension of services to the Liverpool One shopping centre and we are in continued discussion with the Unite and GMB unions regarding this."

Drivers claimed that bosses were not considering employees' home lives with the introduction of new shift patterns, which would be concentrated between 1300 - 2100 BST.
