A 60-year-old man has been rescued from a house fire in Liverpool.

Emergency crews were called to an address on Longmoor Lane in Fazakerley in the early hours of the morning following reports of a kitchen fire.

The occupier, who has not been named, was taken to Aintree hospital for treatment after suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the blaze, which broke out at about 0330 BST.
