Pedestrian, 83, hit by car dies

An 83-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Merseyside.

The elderly woman, who has not been named, was struck by a Vauxhall car on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the accident happened close to the Tesco superstore by the Formby by-pass near its junction with Altcar road at about 1415 BST.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them. The elderly woman is believed to have lived locally.
