Fall girl's family thank rescuers

Evie Parry

The parents of a three-year-old girl who suffered multiple injuries in a fall from an escalator have thanked people who came to her aid.

Evie Parry fell 100ft (30m) between escalators at Liverpool's branch of Primark on Friday afternoon.

She broke a leg and an arm and suffered internal injuries. Her condition at Alder Hey Children's Hospital is described as critical but stable.

Her parents have thanked shoppers, Primark workers and hospital staff.

Merseyside Police said: "Evie's parents would like to express their thanks to all the staff at the Primark store and also the members of the public who responded quickly in providing first aid to their daughter after she fell.

"Evie's parents would also like to thank all the staff at the Liverpool Children's NHS Trust, particularly all the staff at the intensive care unit."

Escalators 'cleared'

Police, the Health and Safety Executive and Liverpool City Council officials are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Church Street store was closed after Evie fell, but reopened on Saturday.

A Primark spokesman said: "The engineers from the council and those from the escalator maintenance firm have given the all-clear for the escalators to operate again.

"We are continuing to look at the CCTV footage to try and build up a picture of what happened.

"Our thoughts remain with the little girl and her family."

The discount fashion store opened last September after a major redevelopment of what had been a Littlewoods store.
