Lack of road markings criticised

Taxi drivers in Chester say having no road markings at the railway station is "an accident waiting to happen".

The station has just had a £1.3m facelift but a decision was made to leave markings off the roads because it is a heritage site.

The redevelopment was jointly funded by Chester City Council and Cheshire County Council.

Councillors are considering putting up temporary signs to help people get used to the new system.

Chairman of Chester's Hackney carriage association Richard Barker said: "It's an accident waiting to happen, there is a lack of signage, because apparently less signs equal less clutter."

He added: "We park in the middle of the bay so that when the bus is here cars don't zoom along on the inside - someone is going to get run over."

Executive member for highways and transportation Councillor Eveleigh Moore Dutton said: "Things are still just bedding in and we're going to listen to people as it goes along. A safety audit will now take place."
