Postal workers vote to end strike

Postal strike Liverpool Postal workers in Liverpool have agreed to end an nine-day unofficial strike.

About 90% of striking Communication Workers' Union (CWU) members voted to return to work.

The walk-out was called off after workers said they appeared to have been promised the right of local negotiation over flexible working.

Workers will return to work on the Thursday late shift - 13 days after any mail has been delivered to most of the local area.

Staff have been told flexible working appeared to be contained in the national deal currently under discussion at the TUC.

Deliveries tomorrow

CWU official Mark Walsh said: "We are obviously glad to get our members back to work, get the public's mail out and keep negotiations about working hours on the table.

"There are no disciplinary issues outstanding."

Mr Walsh said post staff would head back to work on Thursday and deliveries should resume by Friday morning.

Postal workers in Liverpool started their wildcat strike last Wednesday after an official strike had halted mail deliveries.
