Jury hears dying model's 999 call

A recording of the moment a father found his daughter dying from stab wounds in her Bolton home has been played to a court.

Amy Leigh Barnes, 19, had dialled 999 and said: "He's stabbed me to death. I'm dying. Please help me", Manchester Crown Court heard.

With the phone line open her father is heard walking in and saying: "Amy! Amy! Amy! What's happened Amy?"

Her boyfriend, Ricardo Morrison, 21, of Birmingham, denies her murder.

Ms Barnes, a model, was found dead with multiple stab wounds at the house she shared with Mr Morrison in Farnworth in November 2008.

"I'm dying. He's stabbed me to death. I'm dying. Please help me."

Mr Justice MacDuff warned the jury to "steel yourselves" before the audio of the 10-minute 999 call was played.

The 10-minute tape of the 999 call begins with piercing screams and cries from Amy, before she says: "I've been stabbed".

The operator is heard to say: "Emergency, which service do you require?"

Loud screaming is followed by Amy saying: "I can't breathe. I've been stabbed. Please help me. Please help me."

After the operator gets her address Miss Barnes is heard to say: "I'm dying. He's stabbed me to death. I'm dying. Please help me."

The operator then says: "Who?"

Miss Barnes: "My boyfriend...I'm going...I can't see."

Operator: "Where are you stabbed love?"

Miss Barnes: "All over my body. I need help. Please help me."

'Blood everywhere'

Miss Barnes' speech then becomes more slurred and she appears to lose consciousness.

But the phone line stayed open and Miss Barnes can be heard groaning and whimpering, before the operator cannot get a response.

In the background during the 999 call, her mother can be heard leaving two phone messages on the house phone.

Andrew Barnes, her father, who had been summoned to the house by her worried family, then arrived to find his daughter.

He is heard to say: "Amy! Amy! Amy! What's happened Amy? Are you all right? Amy what have you done?"

Mr Barnes then speaks to the police call handler: "I need an ambulance. She's bleeding. There's blood everywhere. Amy, are you OK?

"She's 19. She's bleeding very badly. Amy! She's not acknowledging anything. She's breathing, yes."

The tape ends when police and paramedics arrive.

Mr Morrison's mother, police officer Melda Wilks, 49, of Hollyhill Road, Rubery, denies assisting an offender by destroying evidence.

The case continues.
