£10,000 reward over death of Pc

Pc Mike Silcock

A £10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the conviction of a hit-and-run driver who ran over and killed an off-duty police officer.

Pc Mike Silcock was hit by a gold BMW coupe in Heaton Mersey, Greater Manchester, late on Friday 6 March.

Police said the car was being driven erratically before the incident.

Mr Silcock, 30, was taken to hospital with head injuries, but died a short time later. Another officer, 25, who was injured by the driver survived.

A gold BMW 3 series coupe, registration MM51 VOH, was seen driving away from the scene.

'No conscience'

The same car was later found burnt out on Burnage Lane.

Det Insp Bill McGreavy, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Mike Silcock had been enjoying a night out with a friend when he was knocked over and left for dead in the road.

"At no point did the driver stop or call for help.

"These are the actions of someone who clearly has no conscience or cares about the devastation they have caused Mike's family.

"Someone knows who is responsible and, while we know it can be extremely difficult to come forward, I hope the incentive of a £10,000 reward will encourage someone to take that all important step."

Four men, 29, 24, 21 an 19, were arrested on suspicion of murder in the days after the officer's death.

They were all bailed until 29 July pending further inquiries.
