Vehicle clue in car park murder

Junaid Khan

Detectives investigating the murder of a man shot dead in a surgery car park want to trace the last movements of a vehicle seen in the area.

Junaid Khan, 21, was shot with an automatic weapon while he was on the ground in Block Lane in Chadderton, Oldham, early on Thursday.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw a silver Mitsubishi Shogun in the area around the time of the shooting.

Armed officers from Greater Manchester Police are patrolling the Oldham area.

In addition to providing reassurance to the community, the force said the move was to "deter anyone from carrying out further offences".

"His death has collapsed the world around us"

Junaid Khan's family

The Shogun was seen to drive along Block Lane after the shots were heard and was later found on fire in a car park near to the Akora Steakhouse on Broadway.

Mr Khan, of Cotton Mill Crescent, Oldham, died from multiple gunshot wounds and was the second victim of a fatal shooting in Greater Manchester in a week.

Police have said they have "no evidence" to link his death to the killing of Nasar Hussain, 30, at Brookhouse Supermarket in Salford.

In a statement released through police, Mr Khan's family said his death had "collapsed their world".

"Junaid was respectful, loving and caring. He was a much-loved son, brother and uncle," they said.

"Junaid worked in his father's shop and was a very trusting person.

"His death has collapsed the world around us. He was always there, always there for everyone around him and he was always there to support us.

"Without a goodbye he slipped away but memories of him will always stay."
