Officers praised over fire rescue

Two Greater Manchester police officers have been praised for rescuing a woman from a burning bungalow.

The pair broke into the house on Gatwick Avenue in Baguley at 0245 BST on Friday after neighbours alerted them that someone was in still inside.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was rescued along with her dog. The officers and the woman were later treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious, police confirmed.

Insp David Sutcliffe, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "These two officers clearly went above and beyond the call of duty, putting themselves in very real danger to rescue this woman from the fire.

"They acted on instinct and I believe saved this woman's life and are without a doubt a credit to the force."
