New appeal over 'horrific' rape

CCTV of the attacker

Police need fresh information to catch a man who repeatedly raped a woman he grabbed off the street in Manchester.

The 39-year-old victim was followed by her attacker in the Whalley Range area of the city in June.

He subjected her to a "terrifying ordeal over a prolonged period", Greater Manchester Police said.

CCTV footage of the man has been released by police. Officers have DNA from the man, but it has not yet been matched with any offenders.

The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday 22 June on Egerton Road North.

The woman was walking down the path to her home when the rapist pulled her jacket over her head, forced her to the back of her house and raped her.

'Missing piece'

CCTV shows the man followed his victim along Upper Chorlton Road.

Det Insp Terry Crompton, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This was a horrific attack on a woman who was subjected to a terrifying ordeal over a prolonged period.

"Since the allegation was made back in June, officers have been working hard to identify the victim's attacker and now we need the public's help with the missing piece of the puzzle.

"We have obtained DNA and are systematically checking individuals who could be responsible, but we may be looking for someone who has not come to the attention of the police before.

"We do not want this man to strike again, so if you do know something please do speak to us."
