Thousands taken in handbag haul

Example of stolen handbag

Handbags worth more than £50,000 were stolen when a 40ft (12.20m) freight container was taken from a company's supply yard in Greater Manchester.

Police believe the thieves were waiting near the yard on Midland Street in Ardwick, before hitching the container to a truck and driving away with it.

Inside the container were 10,000 black handbags from Dorothy Perkins. The bags have a label numbered 18102301 inside.

The theft on Monday morning took about two minutes, police said.

Anyone who spots the bags for sale anywhere other than a Dorothy Perkins shop is asked to call police.
