Tribute to woman in pursuit crash

Cassie Fox

The family of a young mother who was killed when the car she was in crashed during a police pursuit said a "huge void" has been left by her death.

Cassie Fox, 19, leaves her son, Lewis James, aged two. She died when the car hit a wall in Chadderton, Oldham, when it failed to stop at a red light.

Christopher Morrison, 23, of Middleton, and Paul Bunting, 30, also died.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) ruled officers were right to pursue the car on Sunday.

Miss Fox's mother, Sandra, said: "Cassie was a much loved daughter, sister and mother.

"She wasn't just my daughter she was my best friend. Her son Lewis James was her world and life.

"Me, her brothers, her partner, and the rest of her family and friends miss her terribly.

"There is a huge void in our lives now that can never be filled," added Mrs Fox.

A fourth passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was the only survivor. She remains in a critical condition at Hope Hospital in Salford.

Police tried to stop the Vauxhall Vectra at the Mumps junction in Oldham town centre.

It initially stopped, but then the driver sped away.

The IPCC said the pursuit lasted two minutes before the Vauxhall driver lost control and hit a wall outside a row of houses.

Naseem Malik, IPCC Commissioner for the North West, said: "It is an absolute tragedy that the incident has resulted in such a loss of life, but it would be totally wrong to suggest the officer is in any way accountable for the outcome."
