Officer held over model stabbing

Amy Leigh Barnes

A West Midlands police officer has been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a teenage model.

The 49-year-old woman is being held in connection with the death of Amy Leigh Barnes, 19, who was found stabbed at her home in Bolton, on Saturday.

Ms Barnes had modelled for Cosmopolitan and Nuts Magazine and had appeared in Channel 4 teen soap Hollyoaks.

Ricardo Morrison, 21, formerly of Birmingham, appeared in court on Wednesday charged with her murder.

The amateur footballer, her former boyfriend, was remanded in custody by Bolton magistrates until 19 November.

Greater Manchester Police said the woman had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and would be questioned by officers later.

She is a serving police officer with the West Midlands force.

Officers were called to Ms Barnes' house in Moss Street at 1140 GMT on Saturday following reports a woman had been stabbed.

Ms Barnes was taken to hospital but died later. A post-mortem examination confirmed she died from stab wounds.

More than 2,500 people have joined a Facebook group in tribute to the model and actress.
