Celtic fans praised for behaviour

Celtic fans have been hailed as "ambassadors of Glasgow" by Manchester Police for their conduct during the match against Manchester United.

There had been fears of trouble because many fans arrived without tickets.

In a statement on the Celtic FC website, Supt John Graves, of Greater Manchester Police, praised fans.

"Whilst I know the result of the game wasn't what Celtic fans would have wanted, the result of the overall event surely was," he added.

In May violence flared in Manchester, which was hosting the Uefa Cup Final between Glasgow Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg.

Police had feared similar problems during Tuesday night's game, which Manchester United won 3-0.
