Man arrested over street attack

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a serious attack on a 20-year-old man in Greater Manchester.

Officers were called to Palatine Road, near to Friday's nightclub in Didsbury, at about 0230 BST following reports of a disturbance.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A police spokesman said a large number of people had been outside the club and may have witnessed the attack.

Det Insp Mark Willdigg, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are trying to establish exactly what happened and how the man came to suffer his extremely grave injuries.

"We know there were a large number of people outside the bar at the time of the incident and I am appealing for them to come forward to help shed some light on what actually happened.

"I cannot stress enough the severity of his injuries."
