Two policemen have been stabbed while trying to restrain an intruder at a house in north Manchester.
They were called to Harpurhey in the early hours after reports of two men forcing their way into a house in Rudd Street and threatening the occupants.
One of the men ran out of the back door and the other attacked the officers as he tried to escape, slashing one on the arm and stabbing the other in the legs.
The officers' injuries are not life-threatening. A man has been arrested.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and serious assault and remains in police custody for questioning.
Police say the family who live in the house, including a teenage son, were traumatised by the incident in which they were threatened at knifepoint shortly after midnight.
The stabbed policemen were taken to North Manchester General Hospital by ambulance but later released.
Detectives are appealing for help to trace the offender who fled.
He is described as being possibly mixed-race and slim. He was wearing a black hooded top and spoke with a Manchester accent.
