Second arrest over street murder

Scene of Salford stabbing

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old youth during a disturbance in Greater Manchester have made a second arrest.

Courtney Eaton was stabbed in the stomach on New Lane in Winton, Salford, on Friday night.

An 18-year-old man from Eccles was arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of murder.

A 17-year-old arrested earlier from Peel Green, Salford, has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Courtney was the second teenager to be stabbed to death in Greater Manchester in a month.

'Tragic incident'

Officers arriving at the scene on Friday night found him slumped on the pavement with a single stab wound.

Detectives believe he was stabbed at about 2300 BST during a disturbance involving a small number of people in the street.

Courtney, from Winton, was taken to Hope Hospital for emergency treatment but died a short time later.

Ch Supt Kevin Mulligan, of Greater Manchester Police, said it was a "tragic incident".

Uniformed officers remain at the scene to provide a reassuring presence for the community but Mr Mulligan stressed such incidents were "rare".
