Stab victim is found on motorway

A 37-year-old man has been found with stab wounds on a motorway hard shoulder in Manchester.

The man was spotted by a passing motorist on the hard shoulder of the M56 westbound, near junction 2 at Sharston, in the early hours.

The victim was taken to hospital with a number of stab wounds to his body and is in a critical but stable condition.

The M56 westbound carriageway between junctions two and three has been closed while officers examine the area.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the man, who was discovered at about 0330 BST, to contact them.
