A 16-year-old boy is being questioned by police on suspicion of murdering a teenager who was attacked after attending a party in Manchester.
Conor Black, 16, was stabbed once in the shoulder in Moston Lane, Harpurhey.
Det Supt Shaun Donnellan, of Greater Manchester Police, said Conor, who was found on grass near the main road, would have been "defenceless".
A 16-year-old boy was arrested by police on Sunday and is being questioned by detectives.
Conor, a joinery student, died on the way to hospital following the attack in the early hours of Saturday.
Forensic tests are being carried out on two knives found nearby to see if they were used in the killing.
Detectives are also looking at CCTV footage and have said they have not yet established a motive for the attack.
A hooded figure was seen running from the area where Conor was found.
A Greater Mancheser Police spokesman said: "Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of Conor Black in Harpurhey have arrested a 16-year-old boy onsuspicion of murder.
"Conor was killed on Moston Lane by a single stab wound to his upper left shoulder.
"Paramedics tried to treat Conor for a puncture wound, but he died on the way to hospital.

A memorial to the teenager, who was known to police, continues to grow near the scene of the attack.
