Stowaway cat's five-day road trip

A stowaway cat survived a five-day journey across land and sea from Italy to Greater Manchester.

The tom, named Versace after one of his home country's best-known fashion designers, was found in a crate delivered to a Eccles hydraulics firm.

Without a pet passport, Versace has to be quarantined for six months and is now at a centre in Chester.

A local vet has donated Versace's vaccinations and he will be re-homed once his quarantine is over.

Brett Cassidy, of Little Creek Quarantine Kennels, said: "He's very playful and he's only been with us a few days after a harrowing trip.

"It's not as though he's been sent over properly in a proper crate, and look at him now. He's great."

The container Versace was in travelled from Italy via Switzerland and France.

He was collected by the RSPCA after workers at the firm spotted him in the crate.
