Pensioner robbed of big bingo win

An 86-year-old man was robbed in the street only seconds after collecting a big bingo win.

The pensioner left Mecca Bingo in Oldham, Greater Manchester, with what police say was a "large cash win".

He was grabbed from behind by a man and pushed to the floor, banging his head and injuring his elbow. The robber ran off with the money.

Pc Rukhsana Kauser of Greater Manchester Police said: "To target an elderly man this way defies belief."

'Angry and shaken'

The man suffered facial injuries and severe bruising to his arm in the incident and was left "extremely angry and shaken", police said.

Pc Kauser said: "Seconds before the attack he had left the bingo hall with his winnings.

"It looks like someone has been opportunistic and spotted this man setting off home with his cash winnings."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery, which happened at about 2100 BST on Sunday.
