Man is stabbed to death in attack

The scene of the stabbing in Middleton Road

A murder inquiry has been opened after a man was stabbed to death outside a decorating centre in Manchester.

The 39-year-old was found by paramedics who were called to Middleton Road, Crumpsall, on Sunday at 1000 BST following reports of an incident.

He was taken to North Manchester Hospital but died from his wounds.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Police have asked for witnesses to contact them.

Detective Superintendent Russ Jackson from Greater Manchester Police said: "We are following a number of lines of inquiry to establish what happened to this man and why he was stabbed.

"But I need to urge anyone who witnessed this murder to call police.

"We have spoken to some witnesses and believe there could be some more."

Mohammed Abbas, who lives near the scene, said: "It makes me concerned living here as it's normally quite quiet and there isn't any trouble."
